THEME:

The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to the Colossians in order to help them cultivate a deeper love and adoration for Christ. I think this text will help you see him as so extraordinary that you will put everything else aside in order to follow him. Ask yourself: What are you devoted to? Choose wisely and make Jesus the object of your devotion.

KEY SCRIPTURE:

Colossians 1:15-17

Colossians 1:15-17

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Jesus is worth your devotion because he is the most valuable treasure in the universe

Colossians 1:15

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Jesus is worthy of your devotion because he is the creator and source of all things

Colossians 1:16

For by him all things were created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

John 1:1–3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Jesus is worthy of your devotion because all things were created for him. He is the goal of creation.

Colossians 1:16b

All things were created through him and for him.

Jesus is worthy of your devotion because he was in existence before creation

Colossians 1:17

And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Jesus is worthy of your devotion because he is the sustainer of creation

Hebrews 1:3b

He upholds the universe by the word of his power.

Stephen C. Meyer, PHD

“Take the expansion rate of the universe, which is fine-tuned to one part in a trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion. That is, if it were changed by one part in either direction–a little faster, a little slower–we could not have a universe that would be capable of supporting life.”
