THEME:
Sin is a nasty customer. It doesn’t fade away. You can’t slowly move past it. If not dealt with, it eventually leads to death. The Apostle Paul commanded believers in Colossae to draw a line in the sand and move from their old lives to a renewed life in Christ. He wanted them to kill sin, before it killed them.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
Colossians 3:5-11
Colossians 3:5-11
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.
Crossing back is not an option
Colossians 3:7
In these you too once walked, when you were living in them.
Those behaviors don’t fit you anymore
Colossians 3:8-9
But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices…
Live the new life that God is providing for you
Colossians 3:10
…and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Colossians 3:11b
…but Christ is all, and in all.
Do the right thing because Christ is the red line
